446 Sergeant George Rosie of Leith

Today is the centenary of the Battle of Gully Ravine on Gallipoli.  156th Brigade of 52nd (Lowland) Division took terrible losses, attacking Turkish trenches on Fir Tree Spur with almost no artillery support.  Among the Royal Scots killed that day was George Rosie, whose parents were both Orcadians.  His photo and brief description of his death appeared in The Orcadian shortly afterwards.  His biography can be downloaded as a Word document from the South Ronaldsay section of the website, or direct as a pdf using the link below.
