A Spring Birding Walk
24 April 2022
Starts: 10:00
Ends: 14:00

Weather permitting, Mike Gee will lead a walk in Deerness.

We will set off from The Gloup carpark at 10am. The principal focus will be on spotting spring arrivals - either breeding birds or passage migrants but non-avian sightings of plants, insects and cetaceans etc will be eagerly sought too. The walk will be open to everybody and especial care will be taken to help novice birders improve their skills. The walk will last 2-3 hours starting at The Gloup carpark making our way to the Brough of Deerness along the cliff path and returning by an inland path to The Gloup. We should be able to find seabirds, moorland birds and farmland birds on this route.

From there we will re-convene, driving to the Newark Bay carpark. From there we walk towards the Point of Ayre carpark and back where we should be able to find both shorebirds and freshwater wildfowl and waders.

Stout footwear, suitable outdoor clothing and binoculars are strongly recommended. Some parts of the walk will require care to keep safe near cliffs.
