AGM & Talk on Wildflower Meadow Creation
25 October 2019
Starts: 19:00
Ends: 22:00

We’ll do our best to have an exceedingly speedy AGM and follow it up with an enjoyable talk from Eileen Summers.

Interest in the creation of wildflower meadows is increasing, largely in response to the loss of much of the UK’s naturally-occurring wildflower habitat and a growing understanding of the challenges this poses to insect pollinators. Local authorities see the incorporation of wildflower areas as a way of helping benefit biodiversity, whilst moving towards a less intensive and costly way of managing open spaces.

Here in Orkney, Eileen has provided seed and plug plants for various wildflower enhancement projects, using locally harvested rather than imported seed, to avoid any risk of corrupting the genetic identity of local strains of native species. Her presentation provides an overview of these projects, as well as some useful tips on growing wildflowers from seed.

7pm at St Magnus Centre (PLEASE NOTE EARLIER START)
