Skye Lib-Dem and independent councillors back Yes

Two Councillors from Skye, including a Liberal Democrat, have announced their support for a Yes vote.

Drew Millar is the latest Liberal Democrat member to turn his back on the No campaign by declaring his support for independence. He’ll be joined by independent councillor, John Gordon who represents the Eilean a’ Cheò ward.

Like Alistair Darling, Councillor Millar says that Scotland can be a ‘successful, independent country’ and he’ll be actively campaigning for a Yes vote during the remaining campaign days.

Cllr Millar said: ‘I will be voting Yes because I believe Scotland deserves to get the government it votes for in order to ensure its future success.   We can be a successful, independent country with the government the people of Scotland choose in place.’

Millar’s council colleague John Gordon is an independent councillor who’ll also be campaigning for an independent Scotland. He says the referendum should not be about ‘party politics’.

Cllr Gordon said: ‘I am an independent councillor and I will be voting Yes on 18th September.  For me this is not about political parties, the SNP or Alex Salmond, this is about what is best for the future of Scotland.’

Their declarations follow those made by other prominent Highland Lib Dems including Dr Michael Foxley, former leader of The Highland Council and Alan MacRae, who was the Lib Dem candidate for the Skye, Lochaber & Badenoch constituency in the 2011 Scottish parliamentary elections.

Andy Myles, a former Chief Executive of the Lib Dems and Denis Robertson Sullivan, a former treasurer of the party, are also voting Yes.
