U3A Birdie Group - July 2019
by Margaret Rinder - 18:43 on 17 July 2019
We met at 4th Barrier car Park, the main focus was to count the Little Terns at their nest site along the beach -this was not easy. Last year we counted 42, this time at least 53, including young. Waders were viewed and Sand Martins, the latter had nesting holes in the sand extraction area, this was news to me and I live close by! We walked part way up the Honeysgeo Road, but not many birds about, so we took a track down to the rocky shore where Tom spotted 10 Shelduck at The Point, and made our way back to the beach.
Birds seen were :-
Little Terns, Sanderling, Dunlin, Ringed Plover, Herring Gull, Black Headed Gull, Greater Black Backed Gull, Eider, Shelduck, Bonxie, 1 Arctic Skua, Sand Martin, Swallow, Blackbird, Starling, Sparrow, Pied Wagtail, Meadow Pippit, Pigeons, Redshank.
Apologies for any ommissions.
