Visitor Welcomed as May - July Points Series Ends
The final races of the May-July points series were held on Thursday, 30 July and the Club was also pleased to welcome visiting Snipe sailor Richard Lambert and crew John Williams who were in Orkney on a family holiday and to compete in the Westray and Kirkwall Regattas. The wind was from the West giving tricky swappy conditions varying between almost no wind and some testing gusts that kept the sailors from getting too complacent. Course 7 was used for all three races. A slight timing error meant that the third race clashed with the arrival of the Hamnavoe ferry leaving Vendetta caught on the wrong side of the course – sorry Kenny. The safety boat was given plenty to do with pathfinding for the visitor, standing by for Njord who disappeared for a while between the Holms because of whisker pole problems and retrieving Go Faster Blue from Ness Point when rudder problems caused her to fail to round mark 7. The results of the three races are given below. Race 1: 1 Aegir (Richard Lambert/John Williams, 2 No Fear (Neil Foubister/Mairi Fleet), 3 Go Faster Blue (Pete Tipler/Graeme Kennedy), 4 Njord (Johnny Robertson/Gordon Hill), 5 Hassfang (Chris Moore/Harvey Dunnet), 6 Scooby (Donnie Hall/Finley Hall), 7 Vendetta (Kenny Holland/Dave Bews), Rtd. Go Quickly Red (Malcolm Tipler/Paula Hemsley). Race 2: 1 No Fear, 2 Aegir, 3 Hassfang, 4 Go Faster Blue, 5 Go Quickly Red, 6 Njord, 7 Scooby, 8 Vendetta. Race 3: 1 No Fear, 2 Aegir, 3 Go Quickly Red, 4 Hassfang, 5 Scooby. Rtd. Vendetta, Go Faster Blue, Njord. The final results for the series will be provided at a later date. Calum MacIver and Davy Wishart manned the safety boat and Isobel Tipler was the starter. Isobel Tipler
