Spring Clean
Posted on 17 April 2011

Saturday 16th saw a good turn out of folk wanting to have a look inside the Ould Kirk, and who were also ready to tackle the cleaning of woodwork on which a few generations of birds had left their mark.

Thanks to Alfie and Erlend, a portable generator provided lighting andhot water, and after a good lot of scrubbing the place was looking much fresher.

Erlend, Alfie, Tommy and Donald managed to manoeuvre the cumbersome and heavy safe through the restricted space from the vestry, and it was last seen going up the brae suspended from the load-all. This has  now freed the space in the vestry for our Remembrance project to go ahead.

As well as having obtained  all the cleaning materials, and tending to the removal of the grime on the  three 17th century gravestones, Athole was chief tea lady, keeping us refreshed and motivated!

Photos taken by Antoine, show the interior of the sanctuary and also the remarkable roof timbers, which although almost two hundred years old, look like new.

We are very grateful to everyone who came along, for their interest, and for their elbow grease, and we want to thank HIS for the cleaning materials which were donated.  We now look forward to refurbishing the vestry, and hopefully there will be a place of interest there for visitors to the kirkyard this summer.
