Orkney SNP members braved a chilly Saturday morning to speak to people in Kirkwall about Brexit and other current issues. The event was intended to publicise the existence of the SNP as a presence in Orkney but also to guage public opinion on current events.
It was felt that the responses were, in the main, very positive. Although there is clearly an uphill struggle to convince some Orcadians that Independence is the way forward, the responses were not hostile and there were many messages of support. It was also clear that the majority are concerned about the likely impact of Brexit and would vote to remain in the EU if given the choice.
It became apparent that many people are still confused about which government spending is the responsibility of Westminster and which is devolved or controlled by the Scottish parliament.
