Play Park Opening

Play Park Press Release

The residents of Shapinsay will be celebrating the opening of the newly refurbished Play Park on Easter Sunday 24th April at 2pm – 5pm.

The winning entrant of the Logo Competition will officially open the Play Park.

This will be followed with an Easter Egg Hunt, Refreshments and fun on a Bouncy Castle.

Funds raised locally enabled the foundation stone to be laid for the project. The Shapinsay Development Trust successfully bid for grants from Children In Need, The Trusthouse Charitable Foundation, The Gannochy Trust, The Robertson Trust and Orkney Islands Councils Community Development Fund and Early Years Fund. The final phase of the project, replacing the old rubber matting with a new wetpour surface, was made possible by a donation from Balfour Estate.

The main body of grants was secured by the Shapinsay Development Trusts Community Development Worker Nickie May who sadly passed away before the project was finished. A bench in her memory will be placed in the Play Park.
