Alan Manzie took up the duties of the Turbine Development Officer on the sixteenth of August, and is quickly coming to grips with his new responsibilities.
Alan comes from a business background of twenty-five years, having spent most of that time within the Unilever group of companies, as a business development manager, and in training roles.
He took a career break in order to undertake a vocational course of study in rural development, before relocating to Shetland, where he was involved in the management of a large shell-fish processing company; during that period he gained valuable experience overseeing the construction of a large factory extension under his management.
He has recently moved to Orkney, in support of his wife who was appointed to a permanent position within the NHS.
Alan will work to bring the turbine project to fruition for the Shapinsay community; scheduled for commission during September 2011, the plan goes beyond the construction phase, to create new community, business, and education & training opportunities for everyone.
