A Telecare Roadshow is being run by Orkney Health and Care in the Stromness Community Centre today from 1 o’ clock till 4, when folk can go along and see how equipment like Community Care Alarms, Fall Detectors and Movement Sensors can help to continue living independently.
The Orcadian Story Trust is hosting a new Workshop Event for writers tonight at half past 7 in the Stromness Library. Tom Muir will be there to tell a few stories followed by the Storytelling Writing Workshop with Nalini Paul.
Saltfish Forty is launching the new album Netherbow tonight in the King Street Halls at 7 o’ clock, with a live performance from half past 7 till half past 8, and there’s no admission charge.
There’ll be a meeting of the Orcades Model Club at half past 7 tonight at Billy Moar’s place.
The Fringe is showing the film Four Lions tonight at 9 o’ clock.
Orkney Strathspey & Reel Society will meet in The Reel for a practice.
Senior Badminton players are invited to take part in a Coaching Session with Angela Bell this evening at 7 o’ clock at the KGS Games Hall.
Kirkwall Kayak Club has a Senior Paddle Night – meeting-up at the Guide Hall carpark at half past 6.
Rocky’s Plaice Holiday Club for all Primary ages continues at Kirkwall’s Baptist Church from half past 10 till 12 noon today & tomorrow.
The Fifty Plus Badminton & Bowls will be at the Outdoor Bowling Green at 10 o’ clock this morning, so just go straight there.
The RSPB has a Birds for Beginners session at Brodgar at half past 10 this morning.
In Eday the Outdoor Education Service is offering sessions in Archery, Abseiling, Canoeing, Sit-On-Tops and Rafts, starting at 10 o’ clock, 12 noon and 2 o’ clock. Then this evening there’s the Community Barbecue from 7 till 10. The Fast Ferry will run its normal timetable from Stronsay and Sanday – and for more details ring Gillian the Ranger on 622 347.
All the Stromness Shopping Week Photos are now on display in the Old Ferry Terminal Building when the cash office is open.
The Sea Cadets are fundraising in the Blue Door this week and would welcome all donations.
Both Library Vans are out today when Betty is in Burray & South Ronaldsay and the Mainland Mobile is in Holm.
And calling all Space Hoppers – there’s still time to complete your Summer Reading Challenge at the Library. Get your books finished before school goes back and you’ll receive your prizes & certificate from author David Bedford when he visits on Saturday August 21st. They say if you haven’t started yet and you can read quickly, there’s still time to join in – just ask at the Library.
Kirkwall Swimming Pool will be closed tomorrow afternoon between 2 and 4 o’ clock.
The Aly Bain & Phil Cunningham Concert in the Arts Theatre is sold-out, but there’s still tickets left for their gig in Stromness Town Hall on Saturday the 6th and they’re on sale from OTE in Stromness or Grooves.
The Orkney Traditional Music Project Summer School Concert is on Thursday 5th August in Stromness Academy, and tickets are on sale from Wisharts in Stromness and Grooves in Kirkwall costing £5 or £2.
The Riding Club’s 4th Dressage League is on Sunday and entries must be in by 6 o’ this evening.
Dial A Bus passengers are reminded that the annual membership renewal is due by the end of this month, and it’ll be assumed that anyone who’s not renewed by the end of this week has chosen not to re-join – so you’ve been warned!

Carolyn Dixon’s recent paintings are on display at The Loft Gallery in the Hope till the end of August.
The Scapa Flow Lighthouse Exhibition has re-opened at Stromness Museum and includes a diverse range of lighthouse artefacts housed in newly designed display cabinets.
Also at Stromness Museum’s summer exhibition is Stromness Maritime Merchants: Trades & Industries That Forged The Town.
The Pier Arts Centre has an Exhibition of Sculptural Works by Frances Pelly & John Cumming, along with a display of sculptures, photos, films & objects detailing a 3 year research programme by Edinburgh College of Art.
The Waterfront Gallery in Stromness has an Orkney Mix of local paintings, prints & craftwork.
Orkney Museum’s summer exhibition is about Orkney’s War: Their Darkest Hour featuring photos & artefacts of wartime in the county.
And the Scapa Flow Visitor Centre at Lyness has the Fortress Orkney exhibition.
