The Dance
This was a most enjoyable occasion, from the story-telling by Ragnhild Ljosland at the start, to the last dance.

The hall was full of enthusiastic dancers who were appreciative of the stirring music played by the Stronsay Band, and ready then to enjoy the splendid buffet supper provided by the Albert Hotel. Many people commented on the quality and appearance of the food provided and by the end of the evening not much was left over.
We also enjoyed the musical interlude provided by the SoothEnd band - four talented lads from Stromness who are fairly new on the scene but proved very popular with those present. A further treat was when Arthur Pottinger took to the stage and changed the tempo with his relaxed style of singing - this went down well with some of our Norwegian visitors who couldn't cope with our more strenuous dances!

However, as the photo below shows, Lisen Ugland Bergshaven (who is over 80) was not deterred by an Orkney Strip the Willow and we have the delightful picture of Norwegian national dress beside  Scottish national dress worn by Leslie Burgher.

A surprise for us all, especially Arthur, was when  Anna Elisa Tryti, one of our special guests, and Head of Culture in the Hordaland Fylke, took to the stage beside Arthur and added an amazing soprano descant to his song.  The dancers all stopped to listen and insisted that the duo perform again together - a real delight for all present!
