Funding for Orkney’s Festivals through OIC
With 2010 being the Year o Orkney Dialect, this seems an excellent opportunity to promote the Orkney Islands Council Festivals Funding initiative. The Festivals Fund is managed on behalf of Orkney Islands Council by the Arts, Museums and Heritage section within Education and Leisure Services. Festivals funding is allocated by the Council on an annual basis via an open application process, and will support cultural festivals for their general running costs as well as specific elements, e.g. educational or community based activities. The fund will also support other types of festivals for cultural elements of their programmes. The festival must promote a cultural programme or have cultural elements in its programme in order to be considered. Culture, in this instance, is defined as being: Arts, Heritage or Language i.e. Orkney dialect. Applications must be received by 1st September in each year. Orkney Heritage Society is eager to see local initiatives across Orkney which could form a ‘Festival o Dialect’. Contact OIC for more details, or contact us via this website for an application form and guidance note.
