Francis Cusiter, Arctic Convoy Veteran

The funeral was held in Kirkwall today of Francis Cusiter, who served in the Arctic Convoys on the battleships HMS Duke of York and HMS King George V.  After two years Royal Navy service, Francis was commissioned sub lieutenant in 1942, the year he married Ethel Matheson in Stromness.  Francis survived his hazardous naval service and their family grew from four daughters to include 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.  Francis will be missed by them and his many friends in Orkney.  He was born in South Ronaldsay in 1915, so a wartime photo of Francis (from George Esson's book Serving King & Country with his permission) has been added to the South Ronaldsay section of the website, or can be seen direct using the link below.
