95th Anniversary of HMS Vanguard tragedy

To mark the 95th anniversary of the series of explosions that destroyed the battleship HMS Vanguard in July 1917, killing 843 of her crew, services were held today at the Vanguard Buoy and at Lyness Cemetery.  Families of three of the victims travelled to Orkney this weekend for these services, conducted by the Reverend David Dawson, with delegations from Orkney RNA, Kirkwall and Stromness RBL, also Vice Lord Lieutenant Bill Spence, in attendance.  The weather was reasonably kind, while the logistics were generously assisted by Talisman supplying a launch, Flotta Lass, for transport to/from the Buoy and Lyness.  For event photos open the link below.
