QUALIFERS

The final qualifying round for the Orkney Darts Classic, played in the Royal Hotel in Stromness, didn’t attract many players as only 14 players, including one young lady came forward.

They were all from Kirkwall with no West Mainland players entering, in fact only one from the West has played in the qualifiers so I don’t think it will be held out of Kirkwall again.

A small entry but some super games were played and it was good to see the one young lady Hazel Hourston even as she went out at her first game.

By semi-final time it was three ‘A’ players and one ‘B’ player, Malcolm Coghill who went out to Leigh Shearer. In the other semi Derek Firth beat Gary Wilson. Gary then beat Malcolm 3-2 in the third place play-off.

In the final Derek was too strong for Leigh and won 3-0. The only 180 scored came from Malcolm Coghill.  High checkouts of a 112 came from Gary Wilson, 113 and 114 from Scott Wilson, 115 from Leigh Shearer and 125 from Derek Firth.

NEXT SEASON

All registration books along with the entry fee must be returned to the Secretary by Wednesday, August 5.

The committee will meet that night to draw up the leagues so no late entries. Books available from the secretary.

At least one player is still required to stand for committee duties for the new season, names to the secretary before Thursday, August 13.

Well that's all the darts for this season. The 2015-16 season will get underway with a meeting on Thursday, August 13, in the Legion at 8pm.
