Changes at the top

Dramatic changes at the top of the Williamsons ‘A’ League as the top four teams clashed.

The Commodores took on the undefeated Sanday and came away with a table topping 9-3 win and now have a clear lead.

The other big game was the Legion taking on the Golf Club and not too big a surprise as it ended in a 6-6 draw. It leaves the Golf Club two points down in second spot with the Legion dropping to sixth place, five points off the top.

Moving up a couple of places were the Wanderers 10-2 winners over Quoyburray and on the same points are the Untouchables 10-2 winners against the Nomads. But top score goes to the Untouchables ‘A’ who whitewashed the Sands ‘2’, 12-nil. It’s the Sands second whitewash in successive weeks but they’re not bottom of the league that belongs to Quoyburray ‘B’ even after gaining a point by drawing 6-all with RBLM.

St Ola remain in top position in the Williamsons ‘B’ League and remain on full points after beating the Masonic 9-3. The Murray Arms are close behind after winning 8-4 against Tankerness, also winning well were the Legion Arrows 11-1 over the Bilco Boys and even at this early time it looks like a three horse race for the ‘B’ title. The Motorhoose had a good win over the Muppets, 8-4 was the score and that was the same score for the Shore also over the Muppets in a postponed game but no score from the Shapinsay v Shore game. All outstanding games must be completed by December 12.

180s from Derek Farmer, Robert Gatt, Ray Butcher, Ben Hogan, Mike Bain, Ian Linklater, Wayne Monkman, Kevin Gray, Stevie Linklater, Bruce Moar, Gordon Rendall, Colin Barnett, Brian Moar, Billy Ward, Brian Stevenson, Erlend Eunson, Glen Miller, Michael Scollie, Mark Shearer and Raymie Rendall and two from Ian Findlay.

High checkouts of a 101 Derek Firth, 101 and 103 Stevie Linklater, 105 Brian Stevenson, Robbie Stanger, Simon Parry, 110 Erlend Lennie, 111 and 125 Billy Ward, 111 Wayne Monkman, 112 Davy Kirkpatrick, 113 Michael Muir Jnr, 123 Des Gillespie, 128 Ewan Rendall and 146 Neil Drever.

The total of 180s scored so far is 161. Leading the way is Kevin Gray on 15, Stevie Linklater 13 and Robbie Stanger 10. Highest checkout is 167 from Brian Moar and in the ‘B’ League it’s 128 Ewan Rendall.

Next big event is Friday night in the Legion. It’s the Jim Scollie Masters Singles. It’s ranking points and is for registered players only.

There’s no ‘B’ League games next week as there’s the ‘B’ Doubles on the Friday in the Legion. Any two ‘B’ players can play as a pair and names must be in by 7.30pm.

It’s coming time to return raffle tickets sold or unsold to the treasurer Davy Henderson at the Bank of Scotland.

There will be a committee meeting on Wednesday, November 26 in the Masonic Club at 8pm.
