Inter-County week

It was a great finish to the domestic scene in the Kirkwall Darts League, as the champions of the West league, the Merkister, took on the Kirkwall Legion, K-DDL champions.
The team game was played, as was the doubles and singles events.
I think it was the first time all the champions came from the same two teams.
In the team game, the West boys got off to the perfect start, as they took the first two doubles, but the Legion changed gear and took the next four singles to lead 4-2 at the break.
After the doubles and singles had been played, they showed why they had not lost a league game for three years, by taking all six games for a 10-2 win to retain the Orkney Team Championship Shield.
During the break, the Orkney doubles were played, with Kevin Gray and Derek Firth defending the title against Paul Foubister and Robbie Brass, of the Merkister team.
It was stirring stuff, as the Legion boys played some great darts to take the title 3-2.
Two of them also met for the singles crown, as Kevin faced Paul in the best-of-five match.
It was great darts, with Kevin edging it 3-1, so all three titles went East, and not for the first time.
It is now on to the big one, as we welcome Shetland down for the annual Inter League/County match on Friday, in the Masonic Club at 7 p.m.
Orkney is going for a hat-trick of wins — something that has not been done in about 30 years, so come on and support the local boys to victory.
The ladies play on Thursday, in the Legion, so we wish them well.
Then, on Saturday, it is the two Anniversary Shield games, ladies and gents, both in the Legion. Names by 1.30 p.m.
These are open for any player; you don’t have to be a member of any team.
Next week, it is the first of two charity events. The first, on Friday, May 3, in the Masonic, then, the following Friday, in the Legion. Both are open and the game in the Masonic will have the visiting Mintlaw team taking part.
It is a separate ladies and gents doubles competition, and the Tattie Bogle Shield is a mixed doubles, but names out of the hat.
There were some 180s scored during the Orkney Championships from Ivan Leslie and two from Paul Foubister, John Munson and Robbie Rendall.
High finishes of 116 from Kevin Gray and 140 from Ivan Leslie.
Still no sign of the wooden spoons. Someone must know where they are. Let the secretary Jim Scollie know.
The presentation night is Saturday, May 18, in the Masonic. There will be mixed doubles darts, as well as Karaoke to follow!
