Either a Common Wasp or a German Wasp. According to my 'sources' the facial markings are important in distinguishing between the two species. And wouldn't you just know it? Paul's wasp's face isn't typical of either species - but perhaps a little more like the so-called German Wasp. Is there a bona-fide hymenopterist out there who can help?

Hi, lovely wasp photo which clearly shows a Tree Wasp D.sylvestris defined by clear yellow face and often with one black dot.
