I mind this day fine, well you wid mind on the day yae met the Queen!!.
We along wae the Stromness Lifeboat provided an escort to the Queens barge from "Britannia" to Scapa pier, we were then presented to the royal party.
Don't know all the people in the shot but will try to name as many as I can. First in the line and shaking hands with Prince Edward is John Rae -John Alan-Mrs Alan Stromness Branch-Issac Moar-Bessie Moar-Jackie Groat Longhope Branch- ??-??.
First crew in the line up are the Stromness Crew Cox Alfie Sinclair-2nd Cox Bob Scott-Eng Stewert Taylor-Willie Sinclair-Jimmy Adams-Michael Flett- Leslie Flett?.
Longhope crew Cox Jacko Leslie- 2nd Cox Billy Mowat-Eng Ian McFadyen-Billy Budge-John Budge-Jimmy Mowat?-??.
As the Queen shook Alfie Sinclairs hand she said "Are you ever afraid",now Alfie was as at home speaking to a tinkler or a fishery officer (He had plenty expierence with them) as he was the Queen, he patted hid ample tummy and said "I always rely on my portable ballast your Majesty,to which the Queen burst into laughter!!.
