Reverse of Angus Findlater Sings

(Reverse of "Angus Findlater sings" sleeve - Phoenix Records EPP 100)

"Robust enjoyment, love of the islands, beauty and pathos – all these, and his own warm humanity, find their way into Allie Windwick's Orkney songs.

They are as melodious as they are homely; and they are already part of the island tradition, for they have been sung all over Orkney by people who may never have seen either tunes or words on paper, but who have learned them by ear, and love them.

Several of them have found a wider audience over the radio. This record will bring them to many more who value present-day songs which have all the best elements of traditional folk music.

Orkney is her, poetically idealised in lyrics and music – with its quiet landscapes, and its hospitality to those who come 'owre the ferry' to find riotous fun perhaps (if they are fortunate) in convivial company, or to join the family group in the evening when young heads are nodding and the fire grows dim.

Allie's friend, Angus Findlater, sings these songs with great feeling and appreciation, giving realisation to every shade of feeling, whether grave or gay. Very skilfully, Allie's nephew, Sandy Windwick, fills in the background with his guitar.
