North Isles fast boat at Eday pier, 4th June 2010

Why do they call it a fast boat, more like a slow boat. It may be faster from Eday to Kirkwall but Orkney Ferries much faster from Stronsay to Kirkwall also much cheaper and more likely to arrive.

On a Tuesday, when you can go with Orkney Ferries, direct from Stronsay to Kirkwall in 1 hour 35 minutes, the "fast boat" takes 2 hours 20 minutes from Stronsay via Eday, then Kettletoft, to Kirkwall. And it costs a lot more! Somehow I can't see many "fare paying" Stronsay folk taking advantage of this service. Time for a re-think, I think !
