Holly Tree

This tree is in the car park behind Bridge Street. It is now very much taller.
11 May 2008.

This tree was part of our garden before the car park was built. 21/23 Bridge Street. I used to play next to it as there was a stone seat or shelf there. (I'll have to ask mum if she has any photographs of that). My uncle Albert Jolly insisted that the tree should be allowed to stay where it was - unlike other trees and bushes we had. It never gave any berries. I wonder if it does now? I saw the tree last year - it is huge.
Thank you very much Sandy, for taking me back to the good old days once more. You have some fantastic photographs of - well - everything!

Special picture for me too. There used to be snowdrops, then lily of the valley growing under it.

Yes you're right Norma. They were my grandfathers favourite flowers.
The soil was very black and rich in our garden. We had fantastic strawberries and the rhubarb was enormous. This was perhaps due to the Willow Burn which ran under it or along the side of it.
(The Lily of the Valley is very special here in France as people offer it to friends on the 1st of May.)
