I am currently carrying on a research about William Kirkness, the son of David Munro Kirkness ( the straw chair maker). William was born in Orkney but he moved to Edinburgh to continue his education and then he ended up remaining there all his life. He wasa teacher of craft and he also set up the Craft Studio in Edinburgh. He served the Royal Scots regiment in Western Europe. He died on June 21, 1974. I am very interested to get to know any more information that some one may have. He was very interested in art, religion, philosophy.
I work at the Orkney Museum and willing to organize a lovely display about this great man soon.
