Lilla (Linklater) Tait, Greenhill, Longhope

Hi there - does anyone have any photos of Lily Jane Linklater (known later as Lilla Tait) who stayed at the Greenhill Longhope (prior to that Wards Farm) with her husband George Tait. She ran a B&B at the Greenhill and was my great aunt. We don't have any photos of her in her younger days and would love to see some if anyone has any

I would imagine that there are bound to be photographs out there of Lilla, as she and her mother were caretakers of the YM, prior to her marrying George Tait.

I remember Lilla and Geordie Tait very well Geordie was an excellent farmer and did so much to improve "Wards Farm". Unfortunately he suffered ill health and died a young man. Not many people would have known that Geordie worked in Boom Defence during the war and was a crewman on the drifter "Daisy" when they rescued most of the sailors who survived the sinking of the "Royal Oak" in 1939 .

Thanks for that John - no I never knew Geordie was a crewman on the Royal Oak rescue - although well before my time - but Lilla never spoke of early years of hers or his life, so only have what my mother recalls. Wards was before my time too - as George had died before I was born, but I was well familiar with the Greenhill and Longhope in general - many a happy holiday and still return once a year to recharge the memories. Holds a very special place in my heart.
