I have jusr discovered that my grandmother's brother, LPS Story, a surgeon probationer, was on HMS Opal when she was wrecked off the Clett of Crura in January 1918. There is a memorial in Portsmouth to the crew. Is there a memorial in South Ronaldsay to the Opal ?
Hi Willie,
There is a plaque situated at the viewpoint overlooking Windwick Bay in South Ronaldsay in memory of the HMS Narborough & HMS Opal. I can e-mail a photo to you if you want to see it.

Hi Steve, Thanks for the reply. Yes, a photo would be great. Percy is a rather neglected member of the family but very much beloved by me grandmother. Sadly, she lost her son, James, at sea in a canoeing accident just before WW2 was declared and his body was never recovered. She must have had mixed feelings when another son joined the Royal Navy in 1941.
