My grandmother was also from the Drevers of Pharay. Her mother was Isabella Drever who married George McKinlay and brought up 6 children in Edinburgh. My sister is coming from Australia this summer and we are planning to visit the Orkney Islands and hopefully go to Pharay. It would be great to meet any relatives who still live on the Islands. Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.k

I wonder if picture #23914 would be of any interest to you Heather, if you haven't already seen it?

Thank you Ian. That stone tells such a sad story. I visited The Orkney Islands with my sister in Mid May. We didn't manage to get to Pharay due to heavy seas. A farmer on Eday had offered to take us in his boat weather permitting. We did spend time with George and all the helpful ladies in the FHS office in Kirkwall and learned a lot about our family. We were able to visit St Nicholas Churchyard in Holm, The gaveyard at Tankerness and a house called New Green Holm where we found family graves and life after Pharay thanks to all the researchers.
