Yes Orkney had a presence at both the Dounby and County shows this year, thanks to a shared stall with the Orkney branch of the Scottish National Party.

It should be reiterated that Yes Orkney is a non-party political organisation which welcomes people of all political persuasions and none. We simply share the belief that the people living in Scotland are best placed to make decisions about our own future.

Informal polls were undertaken at both shows to gauge the opinion of Orcadians on the topic of Scottish independence. The results were as follows:

Discounting the "don't knows" this equates to a result of 66% Yes at the Dounby show and 64% Yes at the County Show.

Anecdotally, many of those who registered a No vote appeared angry, and doubtless many others refused to participate. It's unclear how much to read into these figures, but it is certainly encouraging. Perhaps the years of catastrophic mismanagement, betrayal, corruption, lies, and anti-democratic hectoring by the Tory regime in Westminster are finally starting to hit home?
