 Children and Young People

For a child or young person who has domestic abuse in their family it can be a very upsetting and confusing time.  At Women's Aid we have children and young people support workers who can support you through this difficult time.  Please take some time to read through the next two pages and they will help you understand more about domestic abuse and what Women's Aid Orkney can do for the children and young people affected by it.  If you are or have been affected by domestic abuse the most important thing to remember is IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT.

What Is Domestic Abuse?

Domestic Abuse is when one person hurts or bullies another person.  It happens between two people who are or have been in a relationship together; they might be married, living together, dating or have children together.

Domestic Abuse is not always physical abuse, it can be emotional, sexual or financial abuse.

Domestic Abuse usually takes place in the family home and can happen to anyone regardless of their age, gender, culture, race or sexuality.
