U3A Music Group

The U3A music group last met on Monday the 4th June- and our theme was Scandinavian-
As usual we started at 10-30 and ,with refreshments half way through-we listened and discussed till 1ish-
By "Scandinavian" we included-Danish, Norwegian ,Finnish,Estonian,Icelandic,Sami, and Swedish.
Here are a few of the pieces we listened to-
Grieg was well represented-with Holberg suite and some lesser known pieces.
Iceland-Icelandic melodies-Johan Vendsen,
Danish-Alla Marcia by Dag Viren,
A lady composer (Norrwegian)Erna Tauro-Hostvista,
Folk tunes from Finland played on the organ of Turku cathedral,
Arvo Pert his composition of Arbos played on recorders and triangles-Estonia,
Sibelius -Finlandia on a saw,and we listened to one of our members playing Grieg on a tenor recorder-
Always good to have " Live music"
and quite a few more-
Lively talk throughout-( between items)!
Our next meeting is on the 2nd of July,when our topic is English Music
