by Angela - 21:26 on 08 November 2017

The U3A Music Group-

Meets on the 1st Monday of the month at 10-30 a,m,

And we last met  on Monday the 6th November-

Our theme was -Strings not Bowed-

We all thank Louise for hosting the 13 of us-and providing lovely bakes-

I will include some of our very varied and interesting selection-

This was (for me) a time when I learned much-some instruments I had barely heard of and knew nothing about-

One duo ,comprising of a jazz bassist and a classical mandolinist-both of Morocan ancestry-the disc is called Avital-the surname of both musicians ,though not related-

Another duo we listened to was a Kora -Harp-couple-one Welsh and the other Senegalese-

We had also-Hammered Dulcimer-Celtic Harp-Harpsichord-Piano-The Theorbo-which is a large bass lute- Guitar-and the Guzheng.

Among the other artists were Segovia-Peter Maxwell Davies-

Carawan-

Composers included Dowland-Bach-Shuhua Lou-Vivaldi-Terrega-Scriabin-Chopin-Ponce-Beethoven.

We finished with Apache-the Shadows.

Our next meeting will be 4th December at Valeries-when our theme will be"Seasonal" i.e. Advent-Christmas-12th night-Midwinter ect-

We hope for a seasonal singalong as well -if people will get the music to Valerie  prior to the time-

We invite anyone to join us-
