U3A Music Appreciation Group

by Angela - 19:11 on 03 October 2016

U3A Music group , latest collection

Our theme this month was " Performers or Items  performed here in Orkney"-

And what an interesting selection it proved to be-we listened to such a wide variety-and we had anecdotes to go along with the theme-

I include some of the items we listened to-

Pergolesi-Stabat Mater-Floregium-who have performed here quite a few occasions-

Three Fishers-by Orkney"s  very own Fara,

Evelyn Glennie played her own composition--A little prayer-she had played here when she was just becoming known and was very young-

Peter Maxwell Davies was represented by a few pieces-

Fairwell to Stromness,Courante,Start Point,

Then we had Tom Mc Conville-Tommy on the Bridge-Barbara Grieve -Partons in his Creel-

Purcell"s  The Tempest-THe Westminster Walz-Robert Farnum.

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra -Mozart  Requiem - and more----

Our Next meeting is on the 7th November in Stromness-at the O,Sheas-at 10-30 -The theme to be announced!

We welcome any one who would like to join us-

It is fun sorting through one"s collection of vinyl or C.D."s to find something to fit the theme-sometimes turning up something that we had forgotten that we had-!
