BIRDIE GROUP July 16

by Fiona Knox - 23:19 on 16 July 2014

Eleven of us set off in fine dry weather from the Gloup car park and followed paths through farmland to the west side of Mull Head, passing some very sweet goats and a turkey on the way. Then we followed the coastal path to the Brough of Deerness. We saw in excess of 25 species and among the highlights were a close encounter with a short-eared owl, which took off in front of us on the approach to Mull Head, many Bonxie, puffins on the cliff ledges, a group of around two dozen razorbills on the sea, and fulmar and guillemot chicks. The rain started just as we arrived back at the car park at 1pm - excellent timing!
A good time was had by all.

Seems you can never get away from football - although a man down, these razorbills look as if they are forming a team - don't rate their goalie much though!!
