Blue door!
Posted on 05 July 2012

Stronsay Church has been fortunate in getting the use of the Blue Door charity shop in Kirkwall for the week beginning 9th July. This has come along at a very appropriate time for us as, in addition to the usual fund raising for the upkeep of the Church, we currently have two large additional projects that we need to raise funds for.
Firstly we need to purchase a new organ for the Church. The present organ is now more than 25 years old and has served us well over that time giving pleasure to many with music at church services, weddings, concerts and other events. It is now sadly showing its age with Bruce having to perform running repairs and administer first aid to keep it going and we feel the time has now come when we need to replace it before it needs major surgery!
The other project needing to be done urgently is to rewire the Manse. Following a recent electrical inspection the Manse was found to be well short of the acceptable standard and we have had to make the decision to get it all rewired before we have a new Minister staying there.
If you are having a spring clean, a de-clutter, are downsizing or simply have something you don’t need any more then we would be delighted to get it to send in to the Blue Door to help with our fund-raising. You don’t need to wait until July as anything you do have would be gratefully received anytime at Ebenezer Stores or give it to Raymond, Elsie or Ian. During our week at the Blue Door the helpers there hold a raffle as well as selling goods so if you happen to be in town that week why not drop along to see them and perhaps pick up a bargain or two to fill all that space you’ve cleared! Any support you are able to give to our fund raising efforts would be greatly appreciated.   Ian Cooper
