WINNERS OF 2010 LOVE FOOD HATE WASTE COOK OFF COMPETITION
Orkney Zerowaste together with Orkney Islands Council Waste Services and Orkney College held a "cook-off" competition on Thursday 16th December 2010. Students prepared dishes set by tutors and had to make dishes using all the ingrediants with minimal waste. In addition one group made soup entirely out of vegetable peelings to show how much of the "whole" of the ingrediants could be used!
Judges were on hand to taste and select the best dish and a £30 book voucher was presented to the winner, Gary. Our thanks go to Sheila Chapman, Curriculum Leader, Orkney College who made the competition possible and guided the students. We would also like to thank the judges: Issy Grieve, Orkney College; Alistair Gordon, Orkney Islands Councillor; Sara De Rees, Orkney Zerowaste; and Sam Turner, BBC Radio Orkney.
We are holding a similar event in February 2011 when the winner will have their dish added to the menu in Overblisk (the public restaurant at the college) as the "Special" for that day.
