School Hottest Heap Competition

The aim was to educate children (and parents) of the importance of home composting in reducing the amount of waste disposed of by incinerator or landfill. 

The objective

To make the hottest compost heap whilst still achieving a good healthy "diet" within the heap.

  • The winning school will be the one with the hottest heap and a good mix of ingredients
  • Schools were free to choose their own container, whether to purchase or build a new one or use an existing one.

The prize

OZ awarded the winner with £50 of plant material or similar (as needed by the school).

AND THE WINNER IS.......

SHAPINSAY SCHOOL! Winning with a hottest heap of 63 degrees!  

and Eday School worked hard too and took second place.
