by Left Back - 18:39 on 18 November 2009
On Saturday 14 November 2009, Orkney Womens Football Club hosted the Robertson's Indoor Fives Competition for the 3rd year running.  Ten Shetland players braved the seas to boost numbers to 31 competitors making it the biggest turn out yet.

The round robin tournament was made up of six mixed teams, every team playing each other twice making it a full fun day of football.

One team stood out with the striking power from Lynda Flaws, Shetland most promising young player, linking well with Orkney’s Caron Bews and an almost unbeatable goalie.  They won nine games out of ten and topped the table at the end of the day scoring thirty-eight and only conceding eight.

A few new players made outstanding contributions throughout the competition.
Inga Kemp, Angela Schillings, Elaine Gray, Kirsten Grieve and Shetlands Dianne Morrison all showing promise for the future.

Throughout the day we saw some well executed goals.  Young L.Sabiston scoring a hat-trick for The A-Team against The Young Ones, showing great improvement in her ability.  Experienced players Ruth Pottinger, Amy Graham and Zara Grieve also found the net many times.

The whole day was very successful, everyone having fun, mixing well and displaying some great football.

Orkney Womens FC would like to thank Robertson's for their continued support, David Ryrie for refereeing on the day, the Shetland players for coming down and the Orkney players for contributing towards the buffet and KGS Staff.

A special thanks also goes to the ambulance crew and Balfour hospital!
