About the Festival
The Orkney Nature Festival was set up in 2013 and supported in 2014 and 2015 through RSPB Scotland’s Enjoy Wild Orkney project, funded by RSPB Scotland, the European Regional Development Fund and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
In 2014 the festival also received funding from NorthLink, Highland Park and Homecoming Scotland.
It’s always been a collaborative effort with individuals, community groups and local businesses around Orkney getting involved to celebrate and share our natural heritage – so our full list of ‘thank you’s would be a very long one!
First and foremost, the Orkney Nature Festival simply wouldn’t exist without all those who have contributed their time and efforts, often for free, in putting on events. A great strength of the festival is the range of folk involved in the programme, sharing personal highlights, new perspectives and old memories of Orkney’s wildlife with others.
Sitting on the festival’s steering group are representatives from Historic Scotland, VisitScotland, the Orkney Field Club and Outdoor Orkney. Their wise guidance is much appreciated.
RSPB Scotland staff organise the festival with the enthusiastic help of volunteers, who generously give up their time to help publicise the festival and assist with many events. A particular thank you must go to Community Engagement Officer Anne Bignall, who organised the very popular inaugural 2013 and 2014 festivals.
