Helping locally

We fundraised during the 2016 festival to support free outdoor learning lessons for Orkney schools, raising roughly £3,000 - a huge thank you to all who donated, bought raffle tickets and supported the festival!

Learning outside the classroom is inspiring and fun, and can leave memories that last for a lifetime.

It also teaches children to love and care for the wildlife around them - vital for the future of a natural world that will be in their hands.

During the Orkney Nature Festival we’re fundraising to support the brilliant sessions that RSPB Scotland's community learning officer offers free of charge to schools around Orkney.

Thank you very much for any donations, it all adds up to a big help!

As a practical action, we also encouraged everyone to 'pick up three pieces' while out enjoying Orkney's coastline.

Pick Up 3 Pieces is a great campaign led by Orkney school children to clean Orkney's shores of marine litter, three pieces at a time.

We explained the devastating effect of litter during some of this year's marine-themed festival events, but you'll see bins at beaches all around the islands - so everyone can lend a hand, anytime.
