Sylvia Wishart film

Sylvia Wishart    Short film commissioned by Orkney Arts Society and funded with the help of Scapaflow Landscape Partnership

The late Sylvia Wishart was described by a fellow painter and colleague at Gray’s School of Art as, ‘Orkney’s hidden treasure’. Her natural modesty and reclusive life-style coupled with the fact that most of her work was bought and remains in Orkney, meant that her talent went largely unrecognised in the mainstream art world.

Orkney Arts Society has commissioned  local film maker, Mark Jenkins, to make a short 10 – 12 minute film celebrating the life and work of the late Sylvia Wishart

Beginning on 26th August 2011 the Pier Arts Centre is to host a retrospective of Sylvia’s work, and will run the film during the exhibition, starting on 22nd October . The exhibition will then travel to other venues including the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh, where it can be seen from 1st January.

Copies of the film will be given to Orkney College, Royal Scottish Academy,  secondary schools, libraries and archives. This will provide a base for future research and a lasting tribute to Sylvia.
