‘All Things Seem Possible in May’ Posted on 05 October 2011
Artists’ Sketchbook project commissioned by Orkney Arts Society and funded by Scotland’s Islands 2011 ‘All Things Seem Possible in May’ quote from Edwin Way Teale Three Orkney artists were chosen to fill 40 pages of an A5 landscape sketchbook during the month of May 2011. Each artist’s book will be published, in black and white, in an edition of 200. The books will be launched on 25th October in the upper library of Stromness Academy and a workshop will be held, by the three artists, at the Pier Arts Centre on Saturday 29th October. Copies will be donated to educational establishments and libraries. Income from any sales will go towards the purchase of art works for hanging in Care Homes within Orkney The artists Robin Bownass Former lecturer, Robin Bownass has lived in Orkney since 1996. In 2009 he exhibited his major work “Ship of Fools” in the Pier Arts Centre and at Orquil Gallery, Rendall. Apart from his large figurative canvases Bownass also devotes much of his studio time to still life and portraiture. Colin Johnstone For over thirty years Colin Johnstone has worked in a variety of media including painting, text based collage and object making. He has exhibited widely, his most recent one-person show was at the Pier Arts Centre Stromness - 2007 and Orkney Museum - 2010 Diana Leslie Diana Leslie graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1998 from the department of Drawing and Painting. She has exhibited extensively since graduating and continues her practice as an artist in Orkney. Her sources are various; Stromness, the sea, flowers, art. She works with paint, print and drawing; each medium offering another way in to understanding a chaotic moving world.
