Cllr Steven Heddle was this morning elected to the position of Convener by the members of the Orkney Islands Council. The OMG is pleased to have endorsed Cllr Steven Heddle at an early stage and wish him well in his new post. Now we look forward to working closely with Cllr Heddle with a view to realising our manifesto commitments.

We are disappointed that OMG member, Cllr Alistair Gordon narrowly missed election to the Vice-Convener's post, by a margin of one vote. However, we recognise that he will now be free to concentrate more of his efforts on manifesto priorities.

The OMG will be meeting early next week to discuss methodology and the way forward.
