Flexible West Mainland Bus - Where does it go?
Timetable
We run a fixed bus service from the Kirkwall Travel Centre, past the supermarkets, out the Old Finstown Road to Finstown. This "fixed" bit runs like any other bus service and you don't need to book - just turn up. Then the same route becomes flexible and means we can go anywhere in Rendall, Evie, Birsay, Harray and part of Stenness and Sandwick to pick up people who have booked. We can take people to a destination within this area or back to Finstown or Kirkwall. The fare will be calculated by the mile and will be similar to other bus services. Simply call 871536 up to 3pm the day before you want to travel and we'll plan the route to fit you in. The longer in advance you book, the more flexible we can be to your individual needs and we can take bookings up to a month in advance.
Example 1
Catch the bus at Kirkwall Travel Centre and get off on the Old Finstown Road near Cursiter Quarry. No booking necessary.
Example 2
Catch the bus in Birsay and get dropped off in Dounby. Booking required - call 871536 before 3pm the day before you want to travel.
Example 3
Catch the bus at Kirkwall Travel Centre and go to the Merkister for dinner. Booking required - call 871536 before 3pm the day before you want to travel.
Example 4
Catch the bus in Finstown, get dropped off and do the Marwick Circular walk (see our walks page), get picked up and dropped off at Skara Brae for a couple of hours then come back to Kirkwall for the evening. Booking required - call 871536 before 3pm the day before you want to travel.
For the scheduled route, just look out for this bus and wave it down.
