Concert after Ancient Technology Event

Come to a Concert with Supper and Cog and a raffle to celebrate the end of the Ancient Technology Event on Saturday 1st May

Training in archaeological survey and research

Join the teams at the excavations on Cantick and The Cairns to gain training in archaeological survey excavation techniques. An introductory day at Orkney College (10am-4pm) will cover the basics of background research, walkover survey and building recording. This includes a case study of the recent work at Cantick, The Cairns and Ness Battery. Participants will receive a survey manual that will act as a guide during the fieldwork training. The fieldwork training will take place during the excavations. Basic walkover survey, measured survey, building survey, geophysical survey and photography will be covered.

24th April: Introductory day at Orkney College.

Wartime Heritage training

Opportunities for hands-on training in background research and archaeological survey techniques, organised by ORCA.

An introductory day at Orkney College (10am-4pm) will cover the basics of background research, walkover survey and building recording. This includes a case study of the recent work at Ness Battery. Participants will receive a survey manual that will act as a guide during the fieldwork training. The fieldwork training will take place over 2 days and focus on the shore sites at Ness Battery. Basic walkover survey, measured survey, building survey and photography will be covered.

24th April: Introductory day at Orkney College.

8-9th May: Training days at the shore sites at Ness Battery, Stromness
