Marathon 2008

This years Marathon race on the 19^th of October will be held on a stubble field at New House Farm thanks to Paul Archibald. This is the last race for Orkney Motocross Club season, and with all championships classes now decided this is the last chance for many for a trophy.

The A’s class should be wide open, this years champion Mark Garson has not fared well in a marathon and Graham might still be out with his sore shoulder (pleep) . Stuart Craigie has left some of his brains at Heddle (ouch ) and the way young Dean was going at heddle this last two meetings he might be the main threat. But there’s always the old guys Gary Milne and David Henning ready to throw a spanner in the works or at somebody. Then there’s the other young guns on their 250 fourstokes John Marshall and Danny Milne what a scoop that would be to win this years marathon.

The B’s class should be close Young Kevin Breck might be out for revenge as he just lost out on being B league champion by a few points. But Derry might have different ideas, he might use his new skills from the Des Nations with the Lynx affect so don’t get to close. Then there is Jonnie Peace, as this is a race over 90min he has the stamina to beat lads a third of his age, proved by his results in the beach race. DJ might be in with a shout and there is always miracles with Acker if not in the race but fastest to the Barony Hotel.

The C’s class might be a runaway with Chunk but the Marathon always causes some upsets so Nick Lovick might have a shout if he is on the receiving end of the camera rather than shooting with it. But the Marathon has a history of new starts to the club so there might be some surprises.

Then there the Schoolpersons there will be many a battle going on within the three classes so it should be good racing.

Signing on at 11.00am Juniors race starts at 12.00 race is 30mins Intermediates and seniors race starts at 13.00 and race is 30mins A’s B’s and C’s race starts at 14.00 and A’s and B’s race is 90mins with the C’s race for 45mins. Everyone to help in taking down the course and then there will be a prize presentation at the Barony Hotel
