War Diary of Ralph Hill available now
Posted on 01 July 2009
Ralph Hill got in touch with us to offer us a chapter from his autobiography, entitled "The Russian Gold Medal and the Arctic Star". A copy of this chapter was deposited amongst the archives of the Department of Documents in the Imperial War Museum, Lambeth Road, London SE1 6HZ, in 1995, but is now available to view from this website. You can find it in our library, or by clicking on the link below (opens pdf document).

The Black Building, Kirkwall
Posted on 22 April 2009
Do you want to put your point of view across? Do you want to ask questions, or get involved? Holm Heritage Group's Chairman, Ken Hambly, is leading the charge to save this historic landmark. Do you want to stand behind him or in front of him? Holm Heritage Group is currently running a forum in its Guestbook. Do you have anything you would like to add?

Holm Heritage Group is merely a platform for this debate, and does not have an opinion on this matter.

ODIN - Orkney Defence Interest Network. Are you interested in Orkney's wartime heritage?
Posted on 11 March 2009
The ODIN steering committee has met several times and has eaten much cake, biscuits and fancies (it's a tough life) whilst thrashing out the whys and wherefores of setting up a public meeting to discuss people's interest in furthering the aims of ODIN. We want to preserve, catalogue, archive, discuss and generally yarn about Orkney's vanishing wartime heritage. Primarily interested in the First and Second World Wars, ODIN is also interested in the late 19th century defences - although we certainly won't rule out anything older that anyone may have.

There will be a public meeting on Wednesday 18th March at Orkney College's Lecture Theatre from 7.30pm. It will consist of a few (very) short presentations, followed by tea and shmoozing and then a discussion led by the floor. We want to know what folk in Orkney know, what they want to know, and if they are prepared to help us in our aims (above).

Can YOU help?
