Eday Partnership

About Eday......

Eday lies in the heart of Orkney's Northern Isles, some 16 miles north of Kirkwall. The island's landscape is a mixture of hilly moorland and farmland with beautiful sandy beaches, rocky shores and dramatic sea cliffs.

The population is currently at approximately 150, but with an influx of around 17 new folk in 2008 alone, Eday is experiencing something of a boom!

The island's main economic activity is agriculture, with tourism being an increasingly important feature. The community shop, health surgery and fire and ambulance services, all support essential community needs whilst for entertainment the local pub, cafe, Heritage Centre and Youth Hostel ensure there is plenty to do for islanders and visitors alike.

About The Eday Partnership......

In 2003 Eday was allocated under the, then, Scottish Executive’s Initiative at the Edge Programme as a socially and economically fragile area. Given Eday’s population and the level of community-based activity a slightly different approach to the forming of a Development Trust was taken and, in 2004, Eday Partnership was formed.

Eday Partnership is a Company Limited by Guarantee with Charitable status (under application). Our board is made up of 8 seats for directors, elected from our membership and 5 nominated by partner community groups active in Eday;Eday Community Association, Eday Community Enterprises, Eday Community Council, Eday Heritage Centre Association, Eday Tourist Association.
