Cruse Bereavement Care Scotland (CBCS) exists to promote the well-being of bereaved people in Scotland. We seek to help anyone experiencing bereavement to understand their grief and cope with their loss. We work primarily through volunteers, providing free care to bereaved people. We also train and educate individuals and organisations who may in turn be able to contribute to the well-being of bereaved people.
CBCS was set up in 2001 as a fully independent Scottish Charity, licensed by Cruse Bereavement Care to use the name. Our Headquarters in Perth became fully operational in February 2002 and exists to provide direct support for the work of the Areas throughout Scotland. We do this by supporting local teams and developing volunteers’ skills, both for the ultimate benefit of bereaved clients.
With areal offices as far apart as Dumfries and Kirkwall, we have a single point of contact helpline - 0845 600 2227 - through which we take enquiries from bereaved people, the medical profession and social services. Local contact is then arranged as appropriate.
Northern Area – Orkney
There has been a bereavement service in Orkney since 1991 which supports bereaved people living in our community. It is run entirely by volunteers and offers a range of services. We use the facilities at the Orkney Counselling & Support Centre on the first floor of Kirkwall Travel Centre.
