Orkney Equality Forum Annual Report 2012

Attitudes to Discrimination and Positive Action Survey Results

Plain Text Attitudes to Discrimination and Positive Action Survey Results

Orkney Community Planning Partnership has developed an Equality and Diversity Strategy.  The strategy will determine how the community planning partners will promote equality and diversity in the work they do.  It also sets out how the public agencies and organisations within the Partnership are meeting their duties in terms of equality and diversity legislation, the needs of the local community and the aspirations contained in the Orkney Community Plan.

The strategy replaces the Council’s previous schemes for:

·         Race Equality

·         Disability Equality

·         Gender Equality

OEF Conference - 12 March 2009

Many public agencies locally are working on embedding the statutory equality duties into their work.  The community planning partnership recognises that together, organisations can more effectively achieve and demonstrate positive outcomes.  The Orkney Equalities Forum has recently been re-established in pursuit of this.

Run the same week as the 2009 youth conference of a similar theme, but open to a wider audience, the Orkney diversity conference provided a golden opportunity for awareness-raising.  Invitees came from across the public and third sector, with 50 attendees including Council Elected Members, Council and NHS officials, representatives from community planning partnership organisations and other service providers and interest groups.

Objectives of the day:
 to share knowledge and understanding of local issues
 to identify resource and training needs
 to challenge discrimination and assumptions
 to promote positive aspects of diversity
 to inform key influencers on rights and leadership responsibilities
