WHAT WE DO

The main subjects that the Orkney Citizens Advice Bureau advise on are:

  • Debt
  • Benifits
  • Employment
  • Housing

Additionally, we also provide assistance with a variety of other subjects including legal matters, immigration, family issues, problems with neighbours, taxes, health, relationships and consumer issues.

In order to do this we will:

  • Listen fully to all our clients and try and solve the whole problem
  • Give clients up-to-date information
  • Explain clients' rights
  • Interpret complex jargon
  • Fill in any required forms
  • Explore and discus various possible options
  • Calculate entitlement to benefits
  • Negotiate with merchants, landlords, employers, ex-employers and creditors
  • Refer a client to another service if we cannot provide full assistance
  • Help clients come to terms with their situation when issues cannot be resolved
  • Satisfy our clients with the service they receive. If clients are not satisfied, we will endeavour to make the necessary improvements
  • Make a record of a client's enquiry and what they decide to do. Only the client can see this record. We keep it securely locked up
